Only approximately 20% of the club participated. This is not a criticism of the 80% who did not. Injury, family responsibilities, vacations, and lack of training were all legitimate reasons not to compete.

Next year, the meet will be held in Orono, Maine. We hope that more members will plan to attend. We plan to have a recruiting drive within Florida.  Some travel expenses may be available.

Note: There were 23 other Floridians who did not compete for the club. They will be contacted to join the club.

It was extremely hot – hotter than Florida. Thus, most of

the performances were below par.

The team scores for the top four teams were:

Fleet Foot (Sacramento)  637

Florida Athletic Club      393

Southern Cal. T. C.          332

Carolina T & F Club      327

There have been two different problems regarding team scoring.

Southern Cal. Club has been recruiting all over the country. Including Oscar Robinson, a sprinter/jumper who lives in Boca Raton. (Oscar will join FAC). Technically, if the resident Association and the S. Cal Association agree a transfer is legal. Legislation is being proposed to stop this. If it does not pass then FAC   may also recruit outside of Florida, with the intention of having enough people upset to stop the practice.

The other problem is the “nickel and dime” approach. This was used by Fleet Foot, particularly for the younger women. The club would wait until the last minute to determine which events did not have a full compliment of competitors. They would then enter as many as ten events per individual, regardless of whether the individuals had any training or technical knowledge of the event. The most glaring example, was a lady in the 400 meter hurdles who competed with a cast on her leg. She walked between the hurdles and climbed over the hurdle. The Masters T&F Executive Committee discuss-

ed  this & will have a Safety Judge to remove those athletes who obviously have not trained for the event. There might be other restrict-

ions imposed.
